Elaina’s Story

I have created and sewed for most of my life.  However, I had another business endeavor for many years, as well as a wonderful family that took me away from sewing on a regular basis.  Although, it always remained a love of mine, time did not allow me to pursue it.  I had not really sewn any major projects for quite some time and then with some major life changes, the gift of a brand new sewing machine and serger, I was inspired to sew once again. My daughter’s dearest friend was expecting her first baby and this was the perfect opportunity for me to create a unique gift for her and this was the first  (of many now) Minky blankets that I had ever made.   You could say Elaina was my inspiration to sew once again!

Elaina was born a very healthy, absolutely gorgeous baby, who thrived and met all her milestones, smiling and laughing all the way, until at 9 months of age her Mommy knew something wasn’t quite right. Elaina was not herself.  After a series of tests, the doctors discovered a tumor above her kidney, as well as a few smaller ones elsewhere.  She had what is called Neuroblastoma, a cancer common in children under 5 years of age.  Everyone was very optimistic about her treatment and healing, after all to this point she had been perfectly healthy.  However, things didn’t go well for Elaina and her condition quickly declined and less than a week after she had been admitted to the hospital, Elaina lost her battle and was abruptly taken from her Mommy and family.  As a way to honor sweet baby, Elaina and not to ever forget her short life here on earth, we would like to donate 10% of the sales of every Minky blanket to Neuroblastoma research.  So please buy our “Minky’s For Elaina” and help this cause!
